I originally wanted to do a Marvel comics joke since this is comic number 616 and that is the number for the main continuity universe in the comics but this story has gotten away from me in terms of length and ambition so that didn’t happen. Designing the aliens for the F.A.R.T.E.R.S was a blast. I got to think about how they would have evolved on their home planets and why they looked the way they did. Like one dude breathes chlorine so he needs an apparatus and the other dude lives on a planet with very little light so he has multiple sensory nodules instead of eyes. It was really fun. I think I did a pretty good job of making them all look diverse but understandably alien. I originally had their rank denoted by the color of their patches and stitching on their clothing but the image looked too busy and incoherent and if I made their uniforms all the same color than it looked muddy and dull. Lots of tweaking and changing to get things to look right and I’m fairly proud of how they all came out. Especially since the bird dude and the goggle gal were added last minute. I only realize now that the alien in front is basically a four-armed Kif Kroker but if I were to eliminate everything from Futurama that inspired a design or joke than I probably wouldn’t have a comic anymore.
Oo, what a twist! Does this mean that the automochron consist entirely of the remnant species’ from planets that have been destroyed by our resident alien hitmen? Or am I reading too much into it and it’s just a gag?
Find out next week, on Dragon Ball Z!
That’s not a bad idea, truth be told. I didn’t intend for that to be the case but we’ll see how things go.
